SCSU course IM 621 Summer Session 2018 by Courtney Walsh / KMS Elementary and KMS High School

I completed the course Reading, Listening, Viewing, and Selection for Children through St. Cloud State University during summer session 2018. I plan on completing my Information Media masters and IM 621 is my first step in doing this. During this course we learned, discussed, and presented on the following topics: evaluating Pre-School through sixth grade instructional programs, facilities, and resource collections, developing an integrated resource collection based on curriculum and learner needs, designing a sequential integrated program of information literacy instruction, guiding students in locating, critically evaluating, and communicating information, guiding students in reading, viewing, and listening appropriate to their interests, goals, needs, and abilities, modeling and teaching responsible and ethical access to and use of information, applying educational principles relevant to the physical, social, emotional, oral, and cognitive development of children and pre-adolescents, identifying the role and rationale in using print and digital resources across the curriculum, and creating a literacy rich environment that includes print and digital resources. One of the “on the job” projects I completed and have ready for the 2018-2019 school year is a mediography for fifth grade that focuses on food chains. The fifth grade science teacher will be able to use this mediography to supplement his curriculum. I plan on completing more of these mediographies for other grade levels and subjects this school year
