MN Library Association by Vicki Bartz / Ortonville/Graceville Public Library

The MN Library Association was great again this year. Thank you Prairielands for the Scholarship to attend.
The first session I went to was “Little Coders: Infectious (The Good Kind) Activities for Preschoolers”. I was particularly interested in this session as I had just purchased some coding books for preschool through 2nd grade. They showed us lots of items available on the market, some really reasonable for my budget. They talked about how they did them, etc. I am going to check into some of these items to get in our library. The next session “Programmed to Read: Community Reads” was interesting to me as I have wanted to do a community read but just never have done one. Seeing how others had done theirs was helpful. Audience comments too were very helpful to start planning one. We could all use all the tips and ideas in “Crafts for the Un-Crafty”. Great ideas shared with materials that you probably would throw away.
This year I was a presenter for the first time. “Getting Middle-Schoolers Future Ready”. I had a parent and a student also come to present. We talked about the Future Ready With Your Library Grant and what it means for your community. The student spoke about what she liked in the program and what she expects to get out of it. The parent stated what she has seen. She also wished this would have been offered sooner for her other child who is older. Lots of questions and interaction from the attendees.
