MLA Conference 2018 by Jackee Fountain / Glencoe & Brownton Public Library

The 2018 MLA Conference had many selections of sessions to attend. I always wanted to leave the annual conference with ideas to plan and execute at the Glencoe Library. I attended the LSTA Grant with the discussion held on Pre-School STEM mini-grants. The presenters had outlines, written objectives on hand, example and plans for the grant. Great ideas! I was encouraged to apply for this grant to enhance and program at the GPL and perhaps begin at the Brownton Public Library.Another session I attendee was the Community Reads presentation. Her information was valuable and worthy of planning for Glencoe.Programming Outside the Lines was a very interesting session using NERF toys, zombies in the library, Harry Potter, adult cabin fever and a mini-con. We have done some of these unusual ideas and some are very much a possibility at the Glencoe Library.
I attended 12 DIY Adult Programs by Laura Morlock. Good ideas were presented and I’m planning to do recycled Book Art and Christmas Origami programs. I’m also planning on using legacy grants for opportunity and cost.
I also attended how to speak to city and county officials and make a good presentation about the Glencoe Library. Obviously this information is important and will help me to make good presentations; which will assist in funding the library services in a positive way.
Thank you, Prairielands, for allowing me to attend the 2018 Minnesota Library Association Conference. I appreciate the opportunity you gave me.
